Tour itinerary

Here follows the itinerary of our 2-day tour in Kaeng Krachan national park.
Note: Often enough, our itineraries get turned upside down. It is impossible to plan in nature; the wildlife does not follow timetables, therefore the following itinerary is just a rough example.

Day 1 (06:00 to ±18:00 - 19:00)

On our drive into the park we start with searching for birds and other wildlife from the car. Afterwards we explore the jungle on foot.

After lunch at the park restaurant, we drive to some spots to continue our search for wildlife by walking on the roadside through tall forest near a stream. This area is rich in birds, but it is also one of the better areas to see for example White-handed Gibbons. Often walking this road is more successful in terms of sightings than walking a jungle trail. Partly because of better visibility in the tree tops. But also because the wildlife tends to be less skittish than deeper in the forest.

When hiking we get the chance to discover the small critters like this Lantern bug, Pyrops karenius.

In the late afternoon we drive past various waterholes in the hope to see some large animals. And finally we slowly drive out of the park to return you to your hotel in the early evening.

Day 2 (06:00 to ±18:00 - 19:00)

Early morning the second day, you will be picked up from your hotel. The day starts with a safari drive into the park. We will make some stops here and there to search for wildlife. Followed by some walking.

After the lunch, we do a jungle walk to the Hua Chang cave. And the remaining time of the late afternoon we drive again past various waterholes and forest clearings to test our luck one last time before we leave the park.

I wish we could have gotten the 3 day tour but we booked late. We did not want the tour to end. Next time we will know to book further out. Our tour guide, Bank, was incredible. We did 2 days of touring the park with a night of herping in between. That first day/night combo Bank clocked a solid 15 hours finding us mammals, birds, and reptiles. He never stops looking and is amazing at finding the little creatures. You can tell Bank enjoys the wildlife as much as we do. He is also very personable and easy to talk with. At the end we felt like we had a new brother in our family. We will be back in the future and I hope Bank is still available when we do.

Thank you Jeff for your kind feedback We're very happy to have Bank in our team, and are glad to hear he once again went all the way to get the most out of your trip.

You are of course very welcome to return in the future. Our team of guides in the various parks is quite small - finding great guides like Bank with a passion for wildlife is at least as hard as, if not harder than finding endangered wildlife in Thailand's dense jungles. So, unfortunately we often get fully booked quite a long time in advance. And that means we have to disappoint quite a lot of people. Fortunately there was still a couple days available for you.

    Best wishes,

We had a brilliant 2 day and 1 night stay. Mong was a wonderful guide, taking time to check in with us, answer questions and share so much knowledge about the birds, animals and surrounding areas.

We went on 3 great hikes, saw different species of monkeys, lizards, snakes, spiders, deer and even a bear!

They sorted out all of our meals, put our tents up (with blow up airbeds) and they were a good size. I would say bring a sheet of sleeping bag liner as it's not and the sleeping bags are made for warmer weather!
    It was a great experience.
