Night herping in Phuket's jungle

Tour description in short

Location of Phuket on the map of Thailand

On our jungle night walk in Phuket we will be herping in the evergreen forested hills near streams.

With flashlights we will search the lower vegetation, high up trees, in holes, under rocks, in the leaf litter and so on to try and find the cool critters that call the island their home.

Why our jungle night walks?

This is your best chance to come close to the endemic Phuket Pit Viper (Trimeresurus phuketensis), the stunning Wagler's Pit Viper (Tropidolaemus wagleri), and all kinds of other snakes, frogs and lizards. Sometimes we are even lucky to see nocturnal mammals like slow loris or flying lemurs.

Do you need a break from your beach holiday? Then this herping trip is a great option for you!

Night herping in Phuket's mangroves

Tour description in short

Location of Phuket on the map of Thailand

Our mangrove night walk in Phuket will allow you to explore the mangrove forest and coastal mudflats along the east coast.

Why our mangrove night walks?

Phuket has a decent diversity of snakes that occur in the mangroves. Species that are rare elsewhere, are seen relatively frequently in Phuket, like the Cantor's Mud Snake (Cantoria violacea), and the Crab-eating Mud Snake (Fordonia leucobalia). And you may even get lucky to see the Marine File Snake (Acrochordus granulatus). Well worth the visit!

Why Phuket as a tour destination?

Maybe your family picked Phuket as a holiday destination to enjoy the beach, and you really need a break from all the sunbathing and hanging around the resort pool. Exploring the jungle at night in search for snakes, frogs, spiders, scorpions and other 'creepy crawlies' whilst listening to the natural choir of insects, frogs and flowing streams will recharge you for the next beach session. Or maybe you are already in the know of the endemic fauna and specifically chose Phuket for a dedicated herping trip to find some of Thailand's most beautiful vipers.

The local experience of our herping guides will significantly increase your chances to succeed in your quest to find your target species.

You won't regret it!

What are the available tour activities in Phuket?

Currently, we only offer night walks. If snakes are not your thing, don't worry. By the end of the trip, they will be!

There are also other reptiles and amphibians to be seen, sometimes birds, or if you are lucky even mammals like slow loris, flying lemurs, or the extremely rare Sunda pangolin.

Where are the tours taking place?

Our guides know their way around the various habitats available on the island. For the endemic Phuket Pit Viper (Trimeresurus phuketensis) and the stunning Wagler's Pit Viper (Tropidolaemus wagleri) we visit the forested hills. But for example, it's also possible to visit the mangroves for brackish water snakes. We will discuss the options depending on how many nights you have available, and your target species.
